What to expect

This course is a no-pressure introduction to the medium of watercolour paint. Whether you are brand new to art or have years of experience, you’ll feel welcome in this warm and happy environment. Each week our experienced tutor will teach you step-by-step the many watercolour techniques, these include:

  • Masking
  • Textural effects
  • Colour mixing
  • Brush work
  • Pen and wash
  • Granulation
  • Wet-on-dry
  • Wet-on-wet

With the correct guidance, watercolour is easy to learn and in a relatively short time you can take home a painting you’re proud of! This is an enjoyable class where you’ll be encouraged to ‘play’, create and to explore art as you improve your skills. The emphasis is for you to develop your own individual style.

About your Tutor

Chris has always enjoyed drawing and painting. She trained as a Secondary Art and Craft teacher and although she has taught a wide variety of art and crafts, she has always found watercolour to be one of the most fascinating and exciting mediums. She loves it’s versatility, transparency and the variety of techniques that can be applied to achieve the desired effect.

Chris encourages her students to explore beyond the literal in their work and to use the intrinsic qualities of watercolour to create their own individual style. A variety of subject matter, techniques, composition and colour qualities are all included in Chris’s classes. Her aim is that every student enjoys the creative experience no matter what level they are at, and as the progress they can glean a great sense of achievement.
